The competition is huge when we talk about mid-size sedans and the Ford Fusion hasn’t gone through any drastic changes or make-overs in the past. As a matter of fact, the 2018 model remains almost the same as the 2017 edition.
Yet it still has in it to pack a punch – its consistency is what sets this sedan apart from its competitors. It redefines simplicity by providing us comfortable interiors, technology and a seamless driving experience. After all, what else can we ask for?
A Fusion can be extremely luxurious and at the same time very optimally packaged for budgetary concerns depending on the trim. It sports either all cloth upholstery or quilt leather depending again upon the trim. It can seat up to 5 people and the seats have to be known to be comfortable and supportive for long drives. This car comes with plenty of head room and sufficient leg room.
However, in the rear seat, one might be troubled with the recline already given. The top soft touches are what sets the higher models apart from the budget versions. The difference in the base model and the most expensive option in terms of visual appeal and material quality in the interiors is simply visible and is huge. The Fusion trunk is the biggest in its category and it has 16 cubic feet of trunk space. Also the opening is kept wide so that bulky items can be easily put in and the loading becomes easier.
This car lacks standard features. But it has a host of optional on board infotainment options – be it the Ford SYNC 3- touch screen infotainment system or the smartphone integration capability. The system is very responsive and gestural response is also possible making it easy for the driver to control the screen. AIt does have the standard 4 speaker stereo system and voice controls to make phone calls, which you would normally expect from all sedans today.
However, it does miss out on that extra factor – Ford could have actually gone in for a ‘fusion’ in the infotainment department as well, and perhaps bought in a woofer, or something more exciting.
If performance is what you are looking for in the Ford Fusion, it is then advisable to opt for the Ford Fusion Sport. It is powered with 2.7 liter V6 twin turbocharged engine that can generate 325 horsepower which is huge compared to the 181 horsepower powered base model.
This engine makes driving smooth and lets you enjoy the roads without any bumps. This is paired with a six speed automatic transmission, a common denominator in all the models. In terms of fuel efficiency, the base model scores better than the Ford Fusion Sport. 17/26 miles per gallon in the city/highway is a decent number and we can conclude that the Ford Fusion Sport is also not as thirsty as a similar model of the same category.
There has been a lot of work put in reducing steering feedback from the roads and this makes driving really buttery smooth. All in all it’s an athletic choice to go about the corners and twists and turns.
Ford Fusion’s base model might not be as exciting enough as the higher trim options. But then it does fit the budget very comfortably if we talk about mid-size sedans. If you can afford a higher trim, definitely go for it and you will be able to enjoy the beauty of driving with more power, comfort, luxury and confidence.
If you are looking for a sedan that delivers more than average performance and is tailored to your budget, the Ford Fusion 2018 is your choice. If you are looking for something more than just a Sedan, you are looking at the wrong place.
