Airtel, a telecommunications company in India has launched the Karbonn A40 Indian, a smartphone in partnership with Karbonn Mobiles. The A40 Indian is the first in a new series of budget 4G smartphones from the telecoms giant, and it was launched in response to Jio Reliance’s JioPhone feature phone.
The A40 is part of Airtel’s Mera Pela 4G Smartphone program which sees the telecoms operator partnering with different mobile phone manufacturers in the country to create and distribute 4G-enabled smartphones with price tags as low as those on feature phones.
Karbonn A40 Indian Review
The Karbonn A40 Indian runs on version 7.0 of the Android operating system with the name Nougat out of the box. This is quite impressive considering that this is a budget device, as users get access to the latest software features without having to drill a hole in their bank accounts. The smartphone also supports 22 Indian languages.
Design & Display
The A40 comes compact with a 4-inch display which has a 800 * 480 (WVGA) pixel resolution. As you would expect, its bezels are very large and it uses capacitive navigation buttons.
The back of the phone is made with aluminium alloy and has antenna lines running through its back on the top and bottom. The front camera and proximity sensor are positioned side-by-side on the top bezel at the front.
Memory & Performance
The A40 Indian is powered by a 1.3GHz Quad-core processor and has 1GB of RAM for multi-tasking. It also comes with 8GB of default internal memory which can be expanded up to 32GB using an external microSD card.
A 5MP camera is present at the rear of the phone with a LED flash for lighting, and a 0.3MP camera aids with selfie photography at the front.

The Karbonn A40 Indian packs a 1400mAh battery that can last for up to 8 hours on average use, and is compatible with FM Radio. It comes with dual micro-SIM slots and supports 4G networks with Voice-over-LTE (LTE).

You need to make a down payment of Rs 2899 for the 4G smartphone and make 36 continuous monthly recharges of Rs. 169. You will get a cash refund of Rs 500 after 18 months and another Rs. 1000 after 36 months, taking the total cash benefit to Rs 1500.
