Screen to body ratio on a smartphone screen recently turned into an important thing to consider when comparing smartphones. It became more important after Apple released the iPhone X; being the industrial trendsetter, other smartphone brands made sure that every high-end smartphone they push out into the market must have its bezels reduced to the lowest possible.
The trend also started creeping into entry-level smartphones and will soon start showing up on lower-end mobile phones. The bezel is the name given to the frame around a digital product’s display. It was an important feature that was put into consideration when comparing TVs, and over the years television producing companies have been shading down on bezels.
Then, there came the mad rush on smartphones; while in the search for greater innovations to spice up mobile phone technology, smartphone producers started shading bezels too to create smartphones that are looking more innovative, while increasing the screen to body ratio.
In this post, I will show you top smartphones with the highest screen to body ratio. The brands behind these smartphones implemented their increased screen to body ratio very well.
Xiaomi mi mix 2
The fastest rising smartphone vendor in China got this amazing offer rolling out with an 80.8 percent screen to body ratio. The first Xiaomi mi mix was among the first phones to spot an end to end display its successor made a slight iteration, producing a more appealing display but with a screen to body ratio that’s lesser than its predecessor.
With its 5.99 inch screen, the aspect ratio is 18:9. A frame can be seen around the screen with a sizable bottom bezel that also houses the selfie camera.
Huawei Mate 10 pro
Huawei wasn’t that good with bezels right from, they’ve always tried to minimize their smartphone screen bezels right from the start. The Huawei Mate 10 pro also emphasized deeply on that. The inch colourful AMOLED display that features an 80.9 percent screen to body ratio is cool but has a slight downside; it spots a lower screen resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 when compared to other smartphones that made it to this list.
The lower resolution was compensated with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and makes the resolution quite unnoticeable. A thin bezel at the top holds the speaker and the selfie camera while the thin bezel below holds the Huawei brand logo. It’s quite an impressive phone. Buy now on Amazon (aff).
LG V30 pro
LG did a great job with their G series line of phones, the G6 was a bomb, but while the V30 that followed was a bigger bomb, the pro version of it will blow your mind more. With a screen to body ratio of 81.2 percent, the V30 Pro has made it to the top list of smartphones with the thinnest bezels and most increased screen to body ratio.
Samsung’s closest South Korean neighbours built the 6-inch display on the V30 Pro with a super OLED panel and with its screen resolution of 2,880 X 1,440 pixels, it boasts as one of the top smartphones with the sharpest display.
Just like the Samsung S8s, LG left behind tiny bezels at the top and button on the front-facing camera sensors, speaker and other notable sensors. Finally, the LG V30 Pro has a screen finished with rounded corners and a gentle curve at each side. Buy V30 Pro on Amazon (aff).
Huawei Mate 10
This 5.9-inch display smartphone looks appealing to the eyes. Looks solid with its revolutionary design, the original Huawei mate 10 has an 81.7 percent screen to body ratio. The screen resolution is a 1440 x 2560 pixels and 16:9 aspect ratio. The bezels are slightly thick at the top and bottom; the top houses the speaker, selfie camera and other sensors while the bottom houses the home button. Buy now on Amazon (aff).
Apple iPhone X
One of the unique things that made iPhone X stand out and rocking was its incredible almost all-screen design. The 5.8-inch Oled panel with curved corners has the thinnest frames ever in the history of iPhones.
The indented notch at the top of the display also added a plus one the uniqueness of this device. iPhone X, parked with so many sensors including front-facing camera boasts of a screen to body ratio of 82.9 percent. Buy iPhone X on Amazon (aff).
Samsung Galaxy Note 8
While Samsung was so careful, cutting down on certain things so as not to produce another galaxy note 7 failure, they didn’t tamper with the note 8’s display. Instead the 6.3-inch display on the note 8 spots 83.2 percent screen to body ratio and 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Just like its cousins the galaxy S8/S8+, the not 8 has a slim bezel at the top and another at the bottom.
Here, Samsung ditched the home button, so the bottom bezel is empty. The fingerprint sensor was moved to the back. The top bezel was crammed up with selfie camera, numerous sensors including the iris scanner, proximity sensor etc. Galaxy note 8 in available on Amazon (aff).
Samsung Galaxy S8+
The S8+ looks more appealing; smartphone analysts have crowned it the best-looking smartphone in the whole world. The curved “infinity display,” the screen structure is still the same thing with its younger sibling and older brother S8 and Galaxy note 8 respectively. Buy S8+ on Amazon (aff).
Samsung Galaxy S8
The 5.8 inches on the younger sibling to the S8+ stretched all the way to the sides, leaving behind just a slim bezel that’s barely noticeable and a slight curve could be seen, there is a thin bezel at the top and bottom which made the screen to body ratio result to 83.6%. Buy now on Amazon (aff).
Xiaomi Mi Mix
I wrote about the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 above as a successor to this product. The Mi Mix 2 has a lower screen to body ratio than this offer which happened to be among the first smartphones to implement an edge to edge display.
The launch of this phone was so dramatic, before its lunch, Xiaomi claimed to be producing a smartphone with a 91.3 percent screen to body ratio but when the phone launched it happened to feature an 83.6 percent. While still appealing because it’s basically among the highest, I still imagine what a 91.3 percent screen to body ratio would have looked like on this device.
One thing I don’t like about the phone is the fact that they sacrificed the selfie camera’s most effective position and brought it to the thick bottom bezel. Xiaomi still deserves credit for being among the smartphone brands spearheading the edge to edge display trend.
The Essential phone is a company created by Andy Rubin; one of Android’s co-creators. The Essential PH-1 has a screen to body ratio that is the closest man has ever gone in eliminating the bezels on a smartphone. The Essential PH-1 has a screen to body ratio of 84.9% on a 5.71 inches display with a whopping 19:10 aspect ratio. This is the leading smartphone when it comes to screen to body ratio.
Essential Phone made an intelligent decision on this phone when they ran into problems with the location of the selfie camera, they ended up creating a notch at the top that will hold the only the camera. The notch ended up being surrounded by the phone’s display. Available on Amazon (aff).
Oppo Find X
Oppo really found their way to the top of the screen to body ratio charts when they decided to Find X and X was equal to 87.06 percent. This glossy beauty has absolutely no bezels and I must confess that Oppo is as daring as they are innovative.
The phone measuring 6.42 inch has AMOLED display and looks like a Samsung Galaxy clone with the curved screen and body. Oppo uses a sliding mechanism that pops the whole top of the phone when you tap the camera icon, revealing the dual 16 + 20 MP rear cameras, and the 25 MP selfie snapper.
So at first glance, it may seem as if the phone has none. Oppo was able to achieve this ratio by ditching the fingerprint sensor for biometric face recognition though I still feel it may have been better if the fingerprint sensor was moved to the back. Available on Amazon (aff).
VIVO NEX S
Vivo new smartphone, the Nex S, brings in display designs that rival the Oppo Find X and even managed to add the fingerprint scanner. Measuring 6.59 inch, the device has a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display. It also uses the sliding mechanism to pop up the top of the phone to reveal the selfie camera.
Unlike Oppo, Vivo didn’t ditch the fingerprint Sensor but kept it under the display which made it more daring, innovative, fanciful and superb, along with the full top screen not having bezels thus giving the device the maximum screen size possible. The phone also has a technology that uses the display itself as a speaker. The screen to body ratio is 86 percent. On sale at Amazon (aff).
VIVO NEX A
Like its older mate above, the Vivo Nex A does well in the screen to body ratio charts with 86 percent on a 6.59 inch device, The difference between the Nex A and Nex S is that the Nex A has a fingerprint sensor mounted at the rear of the phone while the Nex S is built under the display.
LG V35 ThinQ
LG has always loved thin bezels so it wouldn’t be a surprise to find the LG V35 ThinQ on this list. An upgrade of the LG V30S, the 6 inch device has a high screen-to-body ratio of 81.21 %.
The device which is Sporting an OLED display also has an extremely high pixel density screen of 537 pixels per inch. The device does look appealing with the rounded edges in both display and designs. Buy now on Amazon (aff).
Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design
Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design is a great device to behold and has an excellent screen to body ratio. With a nice AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display and 1440 x 2880 resolution, the 6 inch device has an 83.93 percent screen to body ratio.
The curved screen helps promotes its edge to edge display and gives it a stylish look that befits a Porsche. Available on Amazon (aff).
LG G7 ThinQ
Here comes another LG device on this list. The LG G7 ThinQ has a notch at the top of the screen giving it enough space needed to achieve the 82.97 percent screen to body ratio and 19.5:9 aspect ratio.
This smartphone is also one of the few devices with high pixels per inch at 563 ppi. For display, the device uses an IPS LCD instead of the OLED and has a rounded derivative design. Sold on Amazon (aff).
Asus ZenFone 5 and 5z
Asus joined the bandwagon of devices with the highest screen to body ratio when it dropped the ZenFone 5 and 5z. Both devices Measuring 6.2 inch use the notch display design to achieve 83.6 percent screen to body ratio although the company insists that it is 90 percent. Both devices also come with an FHD+ (1080 x 2280) resolution for some crisp imagery and a 19:9 aspect ratio. Get them on Amazon (aff).
Oppo F7 is a 6.23-inch display device with a 1080 x 2280 resolution. The device uses a notch to get rid of bezels leaving it with 82.62 percent screen too body ratio with the aspect ratio weighing in at 19:9. Sold on Amazon (aff).
Nokia 8 Sirocco
Nokia is slowly and quietly establishing itself in the Android phone market and every now and then we get to see some of their amazing smartphones. This phone manages to give us an 81.15 percent screen to body ratio on a 5.5 inch display though the aspect ratio is 16:9, and this makes me wonder what it would have been had the bezels been omitted. The phone has P-OLED display technology and also 534 pixels per inch on its curved screen design. Buy now on Amazon (aff).
Samsung Galaxy S9
Samsung has always been a big player in this game and the company’s flagship smartphone for 2018, and the Galaxy S9 wouldn’t miss out for anything. The Galaxy S9 adopts the near bezel-less and infinity display that was present in its predecessors and leaves us with 84.36 percent screen to body ratio, which is not bad for a 5.8 inch device. Buy now on Amazon (aff).
Samsung Galaxy S9+
The Galaxy S9 plus like its brother above also makes the list. The 6.2 inch device uses super AMOLED display and also has the near bezel-less construction and immersive Infinity Display. The screen to body ratio is 83.68 percent. Buy now on Amazon (aff).
It will not do us any harm if we add OnePlus the number of phones above (smiles). OnePlus 6T A.K.A the flagships killer is another phone that befits the great list compiled. The smart device, a tall, 6.3-inch smartphone has AMOLED panel with a Full HD+ resolution, a 19:9 aspect and 83.81 percent screen to body ratio that nearly stretches edge to edge.
Sporting a nice look as it is made up of glass and metal design and notch display (which can be hidden), the device doesn’t lack in performance either as it was recently featured in the list of best-performing android phones for 2018. Buy it now on Amazon (aff).
